When reality clashes with expectation - crash.

Still picking myself up.  Still hoping.  Still dreaming.  But the only better day is going to be made by me.

I was a good student but my daughter couldn't care less

They say you have to have a degree in psychology to be a parent.  I think it's so true.  Wish I knew how to deal with  my daughter's lack of enthusiasm for academia for instance.    I don't want her to regret it later on but she won't be encouraged, pushed or coerced.  Oh how I've tried in many ways to impart wisdom gained from years of struggling for self worth in a series of menial jobs.  I know what you''re going to say: "Someone has to do those jobs, right?"  Even so, they are not the jobs I hoped and dreamed that I would do.  And life is just speeding by.  Is it right to just sit by and do nothing, let the chips fall where they may?

Escapism

I like to read and watch DVDs.    Just can't match what I get out of a book or movie in real life.  It's kind of crazy but I just can't seem to change my ways.  I've started to do a little running with the dog, something I got into in a big way 10 years ago but abandoned when life got busier.    Yes, I know that life is what you make it and I kind of feel like a loser for not making my life more interesting.  After all, the experiences of characters in a book are not always just imagined.

Sometimes you get some good stuff out of TV, like Heston's Feasts.   It's a ripper British cooking show.  Not that I'm a cook but he's absolutely fascinating, the way  he researches obscure foods and cooks them up in absolutely original style.

Tomorrow night I'm going to try my hand at learning Texas Hold Em.  Should be fun.  Still....Book, TV, DVD's, a little jogging and a partridge in a pear tree.

I guess I'm really just wondering if I should be satisfied to get through my busy office work day and just fat relax.Or, should I be exercising my brain or just engaging directly with the world at large, like volunteering.

How to live life to the fullest?  I guess this is what goes through your mind at my stage of life - so cliche and typical.

Hope I haven't bored anyone reading this.

Cheers
